Mideast's retail sector untouched by global crisis say industry leaders

Dubai: The retail sector in the Middle East is relatively safe
from the fallout of the global financial crisis despite a global
downturn in consumer spending, the managing director of Sharaf Electronics,
Yasser Sharaf, said at Gitex on Tuesday.
"In the Middle East I don't think there will be an impact and if there is,
it will be really minor, especially if you look at Dubai itself," said Sharaf.

Sharaf Group plans Dh1b cement plant |

DUBAI - Sharaf Group will build a Dh1-billion cement factory
in Habbab following an agreement with the government of Fujairah,
according to Sharaf's Press statement yesterday.
The company's vice-chairman, Sharafuddin Sharaf,
said the 350,000-sq-m factory would produce
two million tonnes of cement per annum, and double its
capacity after expanding its production area by another 513,000 sq m.

Sharaf Group along with Finetec Corporation and Marvast General Trading jointly announced the set up of a state-of-the-art Cylinder Manufacturing Plant for Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) in UAE on 11th Febrary, 2008. |

The plant will be located in Ras Al Khaimah Free Zone on approx. 410,000 sq feet area. The installed capacity of the plant shall be 120,000 cylinders per year expanding to double in near future.
